3rd Mar 2004 - Division One West Run In

With the end of the season rapidly approaching, here's a run down on the promotion contenders and their run-ins for Division 1 West.  It looks like it's a three horse race between AFC Victory, Southcote Video Res and Southbank for the possible two promotion places, with AFC Victory odds-on favourites to claim the league title.  The top of the table currently looks like this:

                                                 P   W  D   L   F     A   GD  Pts

AFC Victory                              12  11   1   0   53   14  +39  34

Southbank                                15  10   3   2   44   21  +23  33

Southcote Video Res                 15  11   0   4   46   29  +13  33

Southbank's remaining league fixtures:

14/03 Trentonians (h)

Southcote Video Res (h)

AFC Victory (h)

Southbank look set for a top 3 finish with just 3 games left.  The key game is the return fixture against Video but 2 wins from 3 games should be enough to secure 2nd spot.

Southcote Video Res remaining fixtures:

07/03 AFC Victory (h)

14/03 Bishopswood Sports (a)

Southbank (a)

Video have a similar run in to The 'Bank including one game against Victory and the mammoth clash against Southbank.  The pressure will be on them to get a result against Bishopswood to avoid needing to win or bust against Holtons side as so far they have the weaker goal difference.

AFC Victory's remaining league fixtures:

07/03 Southcote Video Res (a)

14/03 Mortimer West End (h)

28/03 Associated Asphalt (h)

Southbank

Mortimer West End (a)

Associated Asphalt (a)

Victory now look to have an unassailable lead at the top of the league.  With 3 games in hand they are already a point ahead of both Video and The 'Bank and have a far superior goal difference.  They haven't got the easiest of run-in's with tricky games against both Video and Southbank, while the two games against Mortimer West End could prove a stumbling block.  Despite having a number of suspensions kicking in Victory have shown no signs of faltering and it'll be a major surprise if they now throw the league away.
