5th Dec 2004 - Cup Heartbreak
for Southbank
Southbank suffered the double blow of crashing out of two cup competitions in
one weekend with defeats for both the First Team and the Reserves.
Southbank's first assault on the Tilehurst Charity Cup ended in a penalty shoot
out defeat following a thrilling 2-2 draw. Despite a 2-0 half time lead
Southbank's bear XI couldn't hold on as Earley Home Guard fought back strongly
to force extra time and then penalties. Penalty misses from Danny
Fitzpatrick and Paul Towner led to a 4-3 penalty shoot out defeat and the
dreams of making it to Madejski on hold for another season.
The
Reserves also tasted cup defeat as Eastern Rangers inflicted a 4-2 beating in
the John Lusted Cup..
