10th Apr 2006 - Southbank Still
Looking Up
Southbank suffered a defeat at home to lowly Mortimer West End after failing to
score for the first time in seven games. Following a number of enforced
changes Southbank's resurgence took a step backwards as West End all but
ensured survival in Division One for another season. Despite the defeat 3
victories from the last three games could still see Southbank edge out
Englefield for 4th spot.
Elsewhere West End's local rivals, Mortimer, clinched promotion to the Premier
Division with a 4-0 victory over The 'Bank's next opponents Trentonians.
The means that neither Englefield or Black Boy can catch the villagers who
finish as runners up to champions Misfits.
The Reading Sunday League dealt a blow to Southbank's end of season
charge when they refused the 1st Teams request for a free week on 23rd April.
This is despite plenty of prior warning and the absence of a game for 3 weeks
in March, not to mention two free Sundays between now and the end of the
season!
