29th May 2006 - Southbank
Season Stutters to a Close
Southbank's last four games of the season ended in defeat as an up and down
season came to a disappointing close. Following the surprise defeat to
Mortimer West End Holton's side went on to record a 2-0 loss to Trentonians, a
3-2 reverse to Mortimer on the Weekend of Steve Woodrow's stag do and a
deflating 4-1 reverse at home to local rivals Englefield in a game that
Southbank could easily have won.
After this poor run of results Southbank finished in a disappointing 8th
position in Division One West. Finishing behind Video Reserves for the
first time ever and also trailing Englefield for the first time in many years!
Andy Persuad's Southbank Reserves had a similarly sour end to the season as
their last game resulted in a shocking 13-0 loss to Wrightchoice, who went on
to win by the same margin the following week! Persaud's Reserves also
finished the season in 8th place in Division Three Central.
Both sides have been hit severely hit by injuries and availability problems
during 2005-06. If further success is to come the clubs way this needs to
change as there is no doubting the talent in both squads, if only it could make
it's way onto the pitch!
Southbank's end of season presentation night will be held on June 9th at The
Bear Inn, Tilehurst. All players are encouraged to attend. Player
of the Year votes should be made via each team manager.
