24th March 2009 - Final Push
for Success As the season nears it's climax the last few
months of the season will be crucial to Southbanks success as both the First
Team and Reserves push for honours.
The first team entered March knowing it would be a crucial month with
everything to play for including the Premier Division title and promotion.
The winter hasn't been kind to the team with numerous games cancelled but
Hightowers side returned to action with a hard fought 3-1 over Purely at
Coley Park thanks to goals from Benji Williams (2) and Archie, plus a
penalty save by the ever improving Charlie Cook.
An impressive 4-0 victory at 116 Exiles, goals by Nerre Skeete, Jason
Wagner, Daryl Fairbrother and Tim Dawson, was followed by a slightly
disappointing performance and 2-2 draw at promotion rivals Woodley Saints.
In a first half which is best forgotten where tactics and personnel
weren't right the team showed what great character it has to come from 2-0
down at half time and snatch a draw (Kasonda and Williams with the goals).
The truth of the matter is but for Woodley's missed chances in the first
half Southbank should have returned with 3 points. However, this would
have been a little harsh on their opposition who worked tirelessly
throughout the game and more than deserved their point.
With crucial games a plenty March and April will decide the sides fate
but the 'Bank are focused and ready for the challenges ahead.
Meanwhile Southbank Reserves are looking to secure their own promotion
and league title in Division 3 Central. With 4 games remaining things
are closing up at the top of the table with Bethel United, 3-0 victors over
Southbank to ruin the Reserves 100% record, and Purley Social hot the 'Banks
heels. Close behind are IBIS and Henley YMCA who both may have a big
say in the title run in.
