Latest News from Southbank FC

21st April 2010 -  The End is Nigh

Southbank 1st team can now see the end of the season on the horizon after 3 games in 7 days bought the end of season closer. There is still plenty to play for with the Majeski Cup final in May and 2 further league games against Emmer Green (25/04) and Dee Rd (09/05) to complete the season’s programme and things are hotting up.

A Win (Wrighchoice 1-0), a draw (Misfits 0-0) and a loss to Whitley Tavern (4-1) concluded the past 7 days in Southbank. Like everything in football when you expect nothing football has a habit of surprising you. After disappoint results against Tavern and then Misfits, both on Prospect Park 5, Southbank recorded an away win at challengers Wrightchoice on Tuesday evening to leave Hightower and the players estatic and finally register a victory against one of Reading’s finest teams.

This week’s results have left Southbank within touching place of a top 3 finish in their 1st season in the Senior division, a massive achievement considering the progress the teams’ made over 4 yrs. Unlike the Premiership where the top 4 make Europe, Southbank have something better to look forward too. The Majeski Cup final at Majeski Stadium is scheduled for mid May (date TBC) against Dee Rd. This game will represent a watershed moment in the clubs’ history. A first final after so many near misses and what a final, more details of the preparations, dates, pictures to follow when the League and Reading FC meet.

All associated with the club are looking forward to cup final and it will represent reward for people associated with the club since 1997 and the present players who all have worked so hard this season to establish Southbank as a creditable Senior division team. Nobody knows if and when the club will compete in a final let alone this Majeski final again, so will try everything possible to enjoy the occasion, the game and importantly to try and win.  However, if the win does not come the season’s achievement will not be understated.
