23rd May 2003 - Rolfe Banks The
'Bank Trophy 2003 Friday saw the inaugural Southbank end of
season golf day at Theale Golf Club. Despite the threat of rain 15
golfers tee-ed off with grand hopes of winning the The 'Bank Trophy 2003.
First to hit the dust was Gary 'Craig Stadler' Purser who retired after 6 holes
and far to many shots. Gary was soon joined in the club house when heavy
rain hit Theale and a number of players walked in as it was too wet for them!
That left just 10 brave souls to endure the weather and play on.
It was the early grouping of Holton, Woodrow and Rolfe that seemed to
be setting the pace with Rolfie claiming the nearest the pin on the 6th hole
with a 9 iron to 10 inches.
Rolfe went on to claim the overall prize as well after murdering the back
nine and shooting 39 to score a massive 23 points to add to his 16 on the front
nine. His 39 was enough to win by 9 points over second place Budda (30).
Ian Harvey just missed out on second place after the pressure got to him going
up the 18th tied in second. The Longest Drive went to Budda who was the
only player to hit the fairway and get over the stream on the 14th.
Congratulations to all those that played, and well done to all those that
finished! Next time we'll have to make sure we don't invite the guests!
