Job Well Done
Southbank 1st Team
recorded there third consecutive win with a comprehensive 8-0 win over
against Theale Reserves. In reality the score should have been much more but
for some missed opportunities, especially in the first half by Hightower of
all people.
Keen to impress on the previous two
wins The Bank had recorded in the opening weeks, they quickly set about
their opponents, displaying some excellent passing and cutting the
opposition apart at will. It wasn’t long before Mig strolled forward from
defence to fire across the goal and Bellman having a similar opportunity
giving plenty of warning. Eventually after 15 minutes Bryce opened the
scoring, reacting to one of many corners and crossed delivered with
precision by Jason during a dominant first half to head home at the back
post.
The Bank continued to pull their
opponents apart during the first 30 minutes with Ricky Gale and Jason
providing passing and tacking which Theale just couldn’t live with. Benji
after plenty of hard work and no reward in the previous two games finally
got off the mark turning home a cross off his kness from the revitalised and
impressive Bellman to give The Bank breathing space and shortly later Wayne
Tully equally gained reward for hard work in the first games by adding a
third quickly after Benji’s, latching onto a simple through ball and lobbing
the on rushing keeper.
From here the Bank had a number of
opportunities to add to the score during the first half, which was assisted
by the withdrawal of the Theale keeper with an injury but no goals followed
despite Hightower dominating Jason’s corners yet somehow failing to find the
back of the net time and again.
At half-time with strong sub
opportunities, Hightower made way with Raph returning to the side after a
week out and he quickly added to the score line to ensure there was no way
back for Theale Reserves. A further goal followed for Benji to make it five
planting a header past the luckless keeper following good work down the
right by Raph. Bryce then made way for the debut of Donal who having joined
the Southbank Reserves made the jump to the first team following good
reports from Scouse. He was quickly into his stride and belies his age with
strength and maturity not normally seen in someone so young and linked well
with the attack to create opportunities and eventually seal an impressive 35
minutes with a goal from 20 yards out. In between Shaz delivered something
of an exquisite cross from the touchline, about 30 yards from goal and the
ball somehow found its way beyond the keeper and in the bottom corner for
his first for the Bank in nearly three years at the club.
Finally, Donal showed again his
power and pace by racing onto a through ball and being upended by the keeper
to provide Benji with the opportunity to complete his hatrick and ensure
that the Bank enter into next weeks vital match against Cholsey United with
a solid performance behind them. The opposition will be better next week but
with the same energy, commitment and ambition Southbank will provide a tough
challenge to a team quickly becoming recognised as a serious contender for
the coming season.
