Got
to score
Southbank were the opposition for Englefield in
the local derby but were without luck as they
ran out losers in this close game 2 nil. Despite
conceding an early goal and losing Bellman to
injury within the first 15 minutes, the Bank
fought bravely in this fixture and on effort
alone perhaps deserved more. However, like some
much of this season, putting the ball in the net
when opportunities were created, meant they
would leave this fixture with no points.
Several
times, especially during the second half
Southbank had plenty of play and opportunities
but could not create the killer pass or the shot
and it was not until the last 10 minutes when
Englefield scored a second, did the game look
beyond the Bank. However, again like so many
games the good individuals on paper don’t
necessary mean a good team. As one watcher said
this was the most professionally played Sunday
league game they have ever seen. The point was
the quality on show was obvious as was the
tactical approach, the Bank aren’t far away.
As the
Bank look to new season, one thing is for sure,
retain the nucleus of this young team and mix it
with one or two more experienced players and
next year they may well be a team with potential
to perform at the consistent levels shown by the
Cholsey, Video and Englefield this year.
Team:
Cook, Haimes, Frade,
