It’s
a really cruel game
Southbank entertained Henley Reserves at Coley
Park Sunday and suffered an extremely undeserved
1-2 loss. Despite taking the lead and
controlling the game for 99% of the time, the
Bank suffered two sucker punches, the second 3
minutes from to end up snatching defeat from the
jaws of victory, despite taking the lead early
in the second half.
After
last weeks Berks and Bucks performance, the Bank
looked forward to returning to league action and
really will consider this a game where luck was
not on their side and the need to score when on
top so painfully obvious.
After a
goalless first half, the Bank opened the scoring
after 50 minutes. Gavin Hill scored his fourth
goal of the season, finishing after Ackmal’s
header had his the bar from a Gale corner.
However, despite a number of opportunities
including a one on one for Benji and a header
from Olly 3 yards out not finding the net, the
Bank were made to pay.
Out of
the blue Henley equalised, a direct freekick
from 20 yards out saw them back in the game.
Despite the chances above, the Bank really were
k/o’d in the 87 min. A defensive header dropped
fully 35 yards out from the goal, but was struck
instantly by a Henley player and flew in over
the helpless Charlie Cook to literally steal all
three points.
At the
full time everybody involved perhaps felt the
score harsh and agreed the Bank did enough but
the points went to Henley and credit to them.
