Southbank continued their recent good form
with a battling 4-2 win over Southside at
Coley Park in terrible weather conditions.
Missing a number of players Southbank
still made a positive start to the game
playing with the wind and against Southside’s
10 men. Danny Hawkins continued his excellent
form this year opening the scoring after 10
mins with a quick free kick 25 yards out to
put the hosts ahead.
Southside restored
to full a 11 quota pushed in the game but it
was Southbank who struck again after 20 mins,
Man of the Match Jason ‘Archie’ McKie, with a
neat turn and shot in off the post from the
edge of the area on 20 mins.
With Dion
Denny and the returning Ryan Derman looking
good down the flanks, Southbank continued to
look threatening going forward but it was
Southside who scored next. A near post free
kick was powered in by one of Southside’s
defenders 2-1.
Half-time came and went
without any further score but the wind and
rain continued. Southbank scored the third and
vital game of the goal, Archie picking up the
ball following good work from Denny, Archie
cutting in on his left foot and firing home
from 8 yards out on 70 mins to pretty much
seal the win. That goal shook Southside who
knew the game was virtually up. However, from
Steve Marshall to Ryan Derman Southbank were
4-1 up. Another corner from Southside resulted
in a goal bound shot which Marshall some how
clawed out off this line. 30 seconds later
Derman was on hand to lob the keeper following
more good work down the wing from Dion Denny
to seal the game.
Southside did reply
with their second 2mins from time but the game
was done by then and Southbank secured the win
they deserved.
