Southbank went down to their first home defeat at Coley Park this season on Sunday with a 2 nil lose to a strong Dee Road outfit in the Sunday Senior Division. Despite the bad weather of the weekend the Coley Park pitch was in excellent condition and the game promised to provide a good challenge

In a first half where Dee Road pressed and Southbank looked to contain and counter attack few chances came. However, Dee Road took the lead mid-way through the first half. A free-kick on the bye-line from Shane Small King was initially cleared by the Southbank defence. However, the ball fell back to Small-King who was allowed far too much time to pick out a quality cross for an unmarked Marcus Richardson to head home.

Southbank were not out of their depth in this game and during the first half found plenty of the ball but despite the efforts of Neil Healy struggled to overcome a well marshalled Dee Road defence who do look every bit championship contenders.

Shaun Dyke provided a real problem to the Southbank defence all game and was involved in both goals and provided the difference going forward. The second goal arrived after 10 minutes of the second half and followed a break-down of Southbank passing in the Dee Road half. Shaun Dyke raced away down the right wing and again was allowed time to pick out a cross which was headed home by Small-King as Southbank’s defence unit was breached and the 3 points sealed.

The game was over as a contest from here as the imperious Dee Road defence refused any decent chances for Southbank and Dee Road looked to counter attack. Neil Healy had the best opportunity which was saved at the keepers near post.
