Charlie ‘Cooks’ Wrightchoice
Charlie Cook scored the winning goal after 8
seconds to settle the game between Southbank
and Wrightchoice yesterday at South Reading
Leisure centre.
Cook who has been at the club for a number of
years and most recently was Southbank’s No 1
for 2 seasons before Cook took a break from
the game, started up front to help out a
depleted team and give the full 11 players.
Due to the time of the kick off the club were
missing a number of players who could not
arrive on time but Cook headed home a
delightful Dion Denny cross, almost straight
from kick-off to score what proved to be the
only goal of the game.
From then on a youthful Wrightchoice ‘huffed
and puffed’ but couldn’t find a way through as
a solid and well organised defence marshalled
by Nerere
Skeete and Will Graham kept
Wrightchoice at bay.
Southbank did have some chances to grab a
second, notable in the second half. However
unable to find a second and Southbank were
under sustained pressure. They had to rely on
the returning Steven Marshall to produce yet
another brilliant double save in the Southbank
goal in the last 5 minutes to preserve the
lead and ultimately give the Bank three
points. There was a certain amount of irony
with the returning Marshall, injured since
breaking a toe against Southside in March,
returning against the same team he made his
debut against and making critical saves to
record another clean sheet.
Hightower would like to make a special mention
to Will Graham, who broke his foot in the
Wrightchoice fixture in early September but
has battled back to fitness after 4 months
out, to break into the 1st team
recently and looked assured and comfortable at
the heart of the defence.
