THE BANK BOUNCE BACK
What a difference a week makes. It is alot more easier and
enjoyable writing a match report when the result and the performance is as
good as it was yesterday.
The game started and for the first 20 minutes or so the game
looked like a nil nil with neither side threatening any of the keepers, It
just seemed to go from one end to the other without any end result. They
kept getting themselves caught offside as my back four held there line to
perfection. Then about 25 minutes into the half the
bank was awarded the first corner of the game, Left hand side Andy Mac with
his sweet left foot was met by the head of Steve Mahoney who made his way up
from defence to attack to score the opener. The Bank take the lead 1-0. In
the back of mind I am still thinking about the week before and hoping and
praying that we hold tight and keep our concentration and build on our lead.
Then we do we get our second goal Ian Rush I mean Harvey takes his goal a
little bit scrappy but never the less it is now 2-0 to the Bank.
A great start but then our opponents Wee Waif showed a bit
of character and grit and scored a fantastic free kick from outside our box
into the postage stamp giving Charlie no chance of getting anywhere near it.
The tie is now 2-1. Still feeling like the a one nil lead is not enough then
we get another dodgy referee descion and they get awarded a penalty which
they put away the cup tie is all even at 2-2. Again I am sorry for doubting
my lads but I couldn't help thinking here we go again. But then Andy Mac
goes down which I still think it was inside the box but the ref awarded a
free kick. Up steps Jeff Evans and to him it didnt matter whether or not it
was a free kick or penalty and he mirrors what Wee Waif did for thier first
and puts it in the top corner great goal and once again we have the
advantage. Half time and the Bank come in 3-2 up.
Second half gets under way and straight away we are the
better team again My back four of Nathen & Mahoney in the center with Karl &
Danny using there pace and commitment backing them up on either side, again
cathing them offside a few more times and starting to frustrate them, (All
four had a great game yesterday) But is still only 3-2 and as we know
anything can happen. Now we are starting to frustrate them and they start to
argue with each other always a great sign when your oppo start moaning with
each other.Again we are awarded another corner
again a great delivery fom Andy Mac but this time it is met by Andy Persaud
(Another good performance from himself) the ball was about to cross the line
and as he was about to celebrate Broomy decided to make sure and put the
ball in the back of the net for him ( And you say it is only Scouse's that
steal ask BROOMY) The Bank now lead 4-2 and looking very comftable.
Now it's time for a change with Karl feeling his shins he was
replaced by Daniel Ironmonger who gave a very good perfomance of himself.
Then another change as the tiring Harvey gave way to Dave Guppy.
With the game looking like it was over and the Bank looking
like they are heading into the next round of the cup. But with Scouse's men
deciding they have not had enough yet. Andy Persaud was brought down in the
penalty area and Jeff Evans stepping up to score his second of the game. The
Bank are now running riot 5-2.
Still not finished and Danny Ironmonger taking a very quick
throw in finding Guppy who took on two of thier defenders and hit it with
his sweet right foot to find the bottom right hand corner and the tie was
well and truely over 6-2 to the Bank.Boys a great
result and that is where we should be every week and I have got an
expectancy for this cup Southbank have never been in a cup Final and both
the reseveres and the first team have the chance to put that right this
year.
BRING IT IN LADS................
