Southbank Reserves made hard work of
dispatching a useful Mapledurham Cavaliers in
a windswept encounter at Mapledurham.
After a first half which saw Southbank
squander ample opportunities to win the game
is was left to second half goals from stand-in
centre half Dave Rolfe and top scorer Jamie
Foncette to win this one.
Rolfie netted with a header from a well
directed Ryan Tipper free kick early in the
second half, and Foncette also popped up with
a rare header as conditions took their toll.
Mapledurham were a very lively outfit and
deserved a late consolation goal for their
attacking endeavour. There's little
doubt they'll cause plenty of teams trouble in
this league, although a bit more discipline
will be needed. The sight of a red
carded player trying to pick a fight with a 70
year old referee is not really one to write
home about, especially when the player feels
the need to arm himself with a broken golf
umbrella....odd scenes!
