After a month off for
both sides this really wasn’t the prettiest
game of football and Southbank started looking
like a rusty outfit. Celtic looked the
sharper side and took a deserved early lead
after 10 minutes with the third of three
decent chances
This woke The Bank up a
bit and showing good character we bounced back
well. The shakey start was behind us and
we slowly took control of the game for the
next half hour. Despite not creating too
many clear cut chances we were well worth our
half time lead after Dan Wakelam forced home
an equaliser from a left wing free kick.
Shortly after Jamie
Foncette calmly slotted home a penalty given
for handball as Southbank pressure on the
Celtic defence took its toll..
The second half saw
Celtic create the better chances through their
dangerous front two but their equaliser came
when a mishit cross somehow drifted into the
top corner. 5 minutes later we were 3-2
down when we failed to clear our lines and
were made to pay for it when their midfield
lashed home a cracking effort from the edge
box right into the top corner.
With right back Mark
Maskell defending excellently, including a
miraculous goal-line clearance, and left
winger Jason Cusworth proving a constant
threat we were still in with a shout of
drawing level when centre half Dan Wakelam was
shown a red card for bringing down Celtics
Phil Tavola.
Playing the last 15
minutes with just 10 men we continued to push
for an equaliser but this left gaps at the
back and Celtic finished the game off with a 4th
with 2 minutes to go.
