Southbank
fielded the same starting eleven for the third game running.
And as per usual we didn’t start playing until going a goal behind
from some sloppy defending.
The
Bank gradually came back into the game and were dominating by half time.
Everest, Woodrow and Neo all went close to equalising before Karl Lobato
got the equaliser just before half time after Everest had nodded a deep Woodrow
corner back across the face of goal.
Southbank
still weren’t convincing at the back and the finishing wasn’t helped at the
other end by the glare from the setting sun.
Paul
Towner came on at half time to replace Guppy with Karl Lobato moving out to the
right. This seemed to give
Southbank complete control of midfield with Towner putting his foot on the ball
and Lobato’s phenomenal work rate paying dividends on the flank.
The
Bank took the lead on 50 minutes when a long clearance was flicked on by
Woodrow. The ball fell straight to
the YM centre back but he dwelt on the ball before being robbed by a firm
tackle by Everest who ran through and swept the ball home.
5
minutes later Southbank increased their lead when Danny Fitzpatrick, on for the
unfit Ben Neo, headed home a Woodrow corner with his first touch.
There was much debate afterwards whether or not it was an own goal and
the video panel will have to decide if Danny still has to buy an end of season
jug!
Southbank
continued to dominate with Cook and Woodrow going close on a number of
occasions. Woodrow did have the
ball in the back of the net again before the linesman gave offside after being
shouted at by French defender, Marcel Sabattyboy.
Tapps
set up a nervy final 7 minutes by giving away a penalty which the Henley keeper
converted and followed this with a petulant kick at another Henley opponent.
Luckily the referee was lenient.
Southbank
clinched the three points with Lobato and Fullbrook particularly impressive in
an otherwise average performance. They
had nonetheless beaten a side scrapping for survival and containing a number of
first team players from the division above despite it being the Bank’s second
game in 3 days.
Team: Harvey, Neo (Fitzpatrick), Fullbrook, Tappern,
